UK Section of the International Solar Energy Society

The Solar Energy Society, the UK national section of ISES, is a non-profit learned society which aims to further the use of all forms of renewable energy by encouraging research, promoting education and providing training. The Society provides a forum for all those interested in renewable energy technologies and its membership is drawn from industry, government, academic institutions, architectural and engineering practices and the general public. Through its meetings and publications, the Society aims to promote discussion and disseminate information on all aspects of renewable energy, including not only technical issues, but also political, institutional and economic barriers and opportunities for the development of solar energy industries, to serve the needs of developing as well as industrialised countries.

The Society was formed in 1976. Since that time it has organised some 100 conferences and published associated proceedings covering all major areas of renewable energy, including the ISES Solar World Forum in 1981, the UK-ISES Silver Jubilee conference in Brighton in 1999, EuroSun 2006 and the Photovoltaic Science, Applications and Technology series (PVSAT). The David Hall Memorial Lecture is held annually and past speakers include Government ministers and leading figures in the field.

The President of the Society is Dame Mary Archer, DBE.

The Acting Chair of the Society is Tony Book, Riomay Limited (retired).
